Every project is different, so each project has a slightly different process. However, I generally follow some common steps for many of my projects:
Wireframes / Conceptual
I create loose wireframes or sketches to give us a plan for the rest of the project. At this point, sometimes (budget/time permitting) we can get early feedback from potential users about early usability issues.
Design
At this point, I take the wireframes and actually create some visual mockups using Photoshop. This is the point where I start working on typography, colors, look and feel, etc.
Website design is a careful balance between aesthetics and usability. It has to look nice, but it also has to be intuitive for your visitors. If they can’t find what they are looking for, they’ll leave. I build web sites that are usable, reliable, secure, and pleasing to the eye.
Code
Now that we’ve settled on a visual design that you love, it is time to make it happen. I code the mockup into semantic XHTML and CSS.
